Picture Book Lessons
#PBLessons are quick discussions and activities that educators and moms can use following the reading of a picture book. As a 30-year veteran of the LAUSD, I always found time to squeeze in contemporary and classic picture books to supplement the required English Language recommendations. The chosen books are written by other authors and have resonated with me in some way. It is my hope that the selections will be educational as well as entertaining.
These quick and easy lessons can be given in small chunks of time or as an entire lesson. They can be used as a 10 minute filler, a quick art activity or even as a homework assignment. Most importantly, they will get kids talking about important themes, issues, writings, art, and the experiences in their own lives.
All lessons are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy to engage students on multiple levels and include the Common Core Standards. Most questions are open-ended; therefore, no answer sheet is necessary. Students are asked to give reasons and justifications to validate their answers. Each lesson addresses a particular grade level but may be adapted to other grade levels as well. Lessons do not contain graphics, so they are easy to print when you're in a pinch.
